GEORGE BLAIR LUND September 2, 1929- October 17, 2006 George Blair Lund, beloved husband of Dalles Esther Lund (nee Low, nee Rand) passed away peacefully on Tuesday October 17, 2006 at the Victoria General Hospital. George Blair was predeceased by his first wife Elfi, his parents, Earl and Mary (Polly) Lund, brother-in-law Glen Fowler, mother and father-in-law Stan and Maggie Rand. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 15 years, Dalles Esther Lund, stepchildren and step-grandchildren, Kelly and Stuart Petrie (Erin ( boyfriend James Cook) and Kerri, David and Cara Low (Matthew and Jenna), brothers, sisters and their families, Ron and Glynis Lund, Reg and Shari Lund, Roy and Nancy Lund, Marie and Roger Nowlan, Doreen Fowler (late Glen Fowler), brother and sister-in-law Bruce and Brenda Rand and their family. George Blair was a special Uncle to his nieces and nephews especially to Bob, Chad and Ashley Lund. George Blair was born in Elkhorn MB on September 2, 1929. He joined the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery Regiment on August 28, 1948 serving until his discharge on August 28, 1973. His military service included two tours of duty in Germany and as a member of the UN Forces during the Korean Conflict. After leaving the Army, George Blair went to work for T. Eaton Co. for 18 years until he retired on March 30, 1992. George Blair loved to go on bus trip vacations and it was on a trip to California that he met Dalles Low. A friendship and then a romance arose from this bus trip and on October 12, 1991 George Blair and Dalles were married and George Blair took on a ready made family of a daughter and son-in-law, son and daughter-in-law and became Grandpa George to Erin, Kerri, Matthew and Jenna. George Blair and Dalles spent many happy years travelling on more bus trips, their favourite destination being to Palm Springs where they met many friends. Together they also enjoyed watching curling, playing card games especially cribbage, going on Casino trips and going out to the Farm in Killarney, MB with Grandma Rand to visit family and make the odd trip across the Border to Belcourt, ND to play the slots. George Blair was a quiet, private man, quite shy until he got to know you. He wasn't really very talkative but could come out with some real zingers . If he didn't know or couldn't remember your name, he'd give you a nickname. His favourite pastime was watching the goings on of the neighbourhood on Naskapi Crescent and then on Devonshire Drive. In the Spring and the Fall he loved to watch the Canada Geese on the field across the street. George Blair was stubborn about seeking medical attention. He rarely complained, even as his health deteriorated and he underwent numerous surgeries, often the only way we knew he was in pain was by his body language. Our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the numerous Doctors, Nurses, Health Care Aides, Home Care Staff and Personal Care Unit Staff who have over the years looked after George Blair's medical needs and well being. A special thank you to the staff (especially Brian and Gary) on 4A South-Vascular Surgery Ward at St. Boniface Hospital, Misericordia Health Centre Personal Care Unit- Wolseley 3, and Victoria General Hospital Emergency and 4th Floor. Thank you also to Dr. Kevin Grace, Dr. Randy Guzman, Dr. John Tanner, Dr. Pat Harris and Dr. Alan Lipson.
