Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCORA LEONE WELSH Peacefully, on Wednesday, October 18, 2006, at Misericordia Place, Cora, aged 93 years, moved on to a better place. Born in Miami, Manitoba in 1913, Cora moved to Whitewood, Saskatchewan at an early age. There she grew up with her brothers Tom and Frank, and a sister Mary, all of whom predeceased her. At 18, she moved to Winnipeg to train as a nurse at St. Boniface Hospital. She graduated in 1934 and worked in hospitals in Winnipeg, Pine Falls, and on Vancouver Island. She joined the army as a nurse in 1942 and served at a hospital in Shilo, Manitoba. There, in 1945, she met and married her husband Clarence. After leaving the army and a short stay in Whitewood, she, Clare, and newly arrived son Jim moved to St. Boniface, where daughter Leone and second son Frank completed the family. Cora worked as a nurse at St. Boniface Hospital and as the Director of Nursing at Tache Nursing Home. An active and giving woman, Cora enjoyed people, many hobbies, playing cards and volunteering at St. Philips Anglican Church and at the Gift Shop at Tache Nursing Home. Gardening was an abiding passion. Husband Clare passed away in 1992. Cora remained in St. Boniface on her own until, at the age of 91, her failing health precipitated a move to Misericordia Place. The staff there will be remembered by the family for their care and kindness throughout her stay. Cora's greatest joy was her family. She will be fondly remembered by them for her unwavering love and support. Left to cherish her memory are Jim and wife Louise; Leone and husband Wayne King; Frank; four grandchildren: Ryan, Tim, Terra, and Jenny; and extended family members in the west. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 24 in St. Phillips's Anglican Church, Tache and Eugenie.
