JOHN MCCRINDLE SR. 1914 - 2006 Peacefully on Sunday, October 15, 2006 at the age of 91. John will be sadly missed by his son John Jr. (Erna), daughter Pat (Bob); grandchildren, Paul and Sara McCrindle and Noah, Adam and Laura Stanley. He will also be remembered by his sister-in-law Madge James. He was predeceased by his wife Connie and brother Jim. Born and raised in Miami, MB John moved to Winnipeg and enlisted in the RCAF in 1941 and served until 1944. Based in England he served as a wireless operator in heavy bomber aircraft, completing 45 sorties. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his devotion to duty. John married Connie in 1948 and settled in Charleswood where he managed the Roblin Park Esso until his retirement in 1973. John was an avid curler who participated in the construction of the Charleswood Curling Club where he served as president and later became ice maker. He was always a favourite dancing partner with the ladies at the club. He also enjoyed golfing at the Charleswood Golf Course and working in his yard. John was a longstanding member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 100, Charleswood. John was a kind and gentle man who will be remembered for his fair and generous nature and willingness to help others. His family wishes to thank the staff at the Victoria Hospital for their care and compassion. A special thanks to the ladies at Rosewood Village (Dogwood House) for the friendship they shared with Dad. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 23, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with interment and reception to follow.
