HOWARD ROBERT SHOULDICE July 2, 1917 - October 5, 2006 Howard passed away peacefully on October 5, 2006, at Grace Hospital surrounded by loving family members. He was born in Winnipeg Saskatchewan to parents Mary and Robert Samuel Shouldice. Howard met Doris the love of his life in White Fox and they were married on December 4, 1939. They moved to Winnipeg in 1940 where he started his career in the garment business with Bryce Sales Ltd., Agents for John Forsyth Co. and Penmans Ltd. In January 1943 he joined the RCAF as an aeronautical engine mechanic taking training in Winnipeg and St., Thomas, Ontario. On completion of the course he was kept on staff as an Instructor. Doris joined him and they lived at Port Stanley until the school was closed in 1945. Upon discharge from the service in 1946 he returned to Bryce Sales advancing to Western Sales Manager for Penmans Limited, retiring in 1981. Howard will be lovingly remembered and cherished by his wife Doris; daughter Ferryl and husband Bill Casselman and grandson Billy Casselman and his wife Elizabeth (Hall) and their daughter great-granddaughter Olivia; son David and his wife Carol; and son Rod and his wife Jill (Heffner) and their children, Tristan, Roseangela and Kaspar. His quiet and unwavering strength of will has left an indelible impression on us forever. After retirement, Howard took up golfing and curling and enjoyed these hobbies for over 20 years. He was the Director of the Thistle Curling and Social Club. He and Doris spent over 20 years with winter vacations in Mexico, Hawaii and Germany. Howard was very involved in the community, being a founding member and first secretary of Silver Heights Community Club. He was also a charter member and life member of the RCAF Association of Canada. He was Past President of No. 500 City of Winnipeg Wing. Until recently he did volunteer work helping with restoration of old airplanes displayed at the airbase. He was a member of Capital Masonic Lodge, the Khartum Shrine and a Life member of the Directors Staff Unit. He gave many years of volunteer time to the Shrine. A special thank you is extended to the Sturgeon Creek Retirement Home for all their help and kindness and to the nurses and doctors at the Grace Hospital and to the many people who send cards, flowers and well wishes.
