JOSEPH BANCARZ Peacefully on the morning of October 17, 2006 our Joe passed away at the age of 90 at the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg. Joe was born in Goodeve, SK, January 22, 1916 to Anastazya Lizun and Vincent Bancarz. The family then moved to Togo, SK where they farmed for many years. Joe came to live in Winnipeg in 1943 and worked at Burns Co. until his retirement. Joe was predeceased by his parents; brother John; sister Antonia Zibresky; and his most beloved wife Sophie in September 2002. He is survived by his brother Mike of Roblin, MB and his family; nephew Emil (Karen) Zibresky and children of Regina, SK. He will be remembered by cousins, Elizabeth (George) Leschyshyn and children of Roblin; Irene (Nazar) Chomiak and family, Sylvia (Nazar) (Adam) Romanchuk and family and Eric (Grace) Nazar and family, all of Winnipeg; cousin Frances Barandowski of Simcoe ON. Sophie's niece Linda (Raymond) De Gagne and family of Winnipeg. Joe was a gentle and humble man who was always curious and interested in everyone and everything. He was a great storyteller and had the patience to listen and hear the stories of others. He loved a good conversation; his daily Winnipeg Free Press, and radio station CJOB which were his windows to the world. A big thank you to Anne and Wyman for always getting Joe to Church every Sunday and other church activities. Joe had many special friends at St. Ivan's with whom he enjoyed coffee time and good conversations. He also enjoyed visiting and chatting with his neighbours. The family would also like to thank Irene who, after Sophie's passing, helped to keep Joe going strong and with the help of Home Care enabling him to stay in his home for as long as possible. A heart felt thank you to the staff at the Middlechurch Home for their compassion and kindness to Joe. They are very special group of people. Prayer service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Sunday, October 22 at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Ivan Suchavsky Cathedral, 939 Main St. at 10:30 a.m. with burial to follow at All Saints Cemetery. Honourary Pallbearers will be Adam Romanchuk and Raymond De Gagne. Pallbearers will be Michael and Christopher Chomiak, Ken Nazeravich, Jason Drysdale, Russell and Cory De Gagne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Ivan Suchavsky Cathedral, 939 Main St., Winnipeg, MB R2W 3P2 or to Middlechuch Home of Winnipeg, 280 Balderstone Rd. West St. Paul, MB R4A 4A6.
