JOSE GOMES On October 19, 2006 at St. Boniface Hospital, after a valiant struggle with ALS (Lou Gerhig's Disease), José Gomes, beloved husband of Flora Gomes, passed away surrounded by his family and friends, at the age of 59 years. Besides his wife, José is survived by his son Joe Jr. and daughter Marie, his daughter-in-law Celia and son-in-law Joe Loureiro; grandchildren, Christopher, Stephanie, Catia and Selena all of Winnipeg, Manitoba. He also leaves to mourn his parents Joaquim and Rosalina of Portugal. His sisters, Amelie, Gena, of Montreal and Julia of Portugal, as well as other relatives and countless friends. José was a loving, dedicated husband and father, a loyal and trustworthy friend and possessed a passion for life and people. He will be sadly and greatly missed. Although he struggled physically and emotionally with a debilitating disease, his spirit and courage never faltered. Prayers and reception will be held on Sunday, October 22 at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street at Inkster. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Blessed John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, 3390 Portage Ave. at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 23, and interment to follow at the Assumption Cemetery, Queen of Heaven Mausoleum, 3990 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in José's memory to the ALS Foundation of Manitoba. We would like to thank the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, and the support of the homecare attendants, the Deer Lodge staff, and St. Boniface Hospital Staff who assisted in caring for José. Words cannot express the thanks and gratitude of our family for all the support of the countless friends and the Portuguese Community during our difficult time.
