JOHN FUNK April 4, 1937 October 19, 2006 With sadness we announce the death of John Funk. He will be dearly missed by Betty, his loving wife and partner of 48 years. His children Garnet (Carolyn), Grant, Nicole Grenkow (Kurtis) and grandchildren Biatta, Bretton and Seraphine all mourn his loss. John will be fondly remembered by his sister Martinet Orr, nephew Brennan and niece Breanna. Predeceased by his mother Anna and father Peter, his brother Leonard (survived by Carol and their children Cameron, Jason, Charlene and Tamara) and his brother Donald (survived by Betty and his children Donnie, Steven and Vincent). John was born in Steinbach, Manitoba and moved to Winnipeg as a young boy. John married Betty Schreiber in 1958. In 1959 he became a journeyman electrician with Williams Electric. He worked for Kelvin Electric for 35 years before becoming an independent contractor as Candu Electric for 10 years. He also used his skills as an electrician working with the Regional Building Committee in constructing Kingdom Halls in Manitoba. For over 58 years and up to his final days as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, John devoted his life to serving God and sharing his faith with others. He served as an elder in both the River East and East St. Paul congregations. He was highly respected for his humble attitude, love of the Bible along with his unwavering faith in the hope of God's Kingdom. The family wishes to thank the extraordinary palliative care provided by Nurses and Health Care Aids as well as the support of friends during his last few weeks at home. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall Centre of Jehovah's Witnesses, 227 Lakewood Blvd., with Brad Solylo officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Worldwide Work of Jehovah's Witnesses (Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of Canada, Box BP 4100, Georgetown, ON, L7G 4Y4) or CancerCare, 109 675 McDermot Ave., R3E 0V9, would be gratefully accepted. Arrangements in care of: KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson - North of McIvor - 338-0331 www.klassenfuneralhome.com

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Grandpa, I know you are in the earth sleeping until Jehovah wakes you up, but this is more of a note for me to remember to tell you when you awake... We've missed you so much! I missed you so much... You now have two additional beautiful grandchildren and both Bretton and I have a wonderful Christian spouse - Jennifer and Joel. Can't wait for you to meet the new additions and see you in Paradise in your prime of life. (Revelation 21:4) Not a day goes by that you are not remembered. I tried to live by the values you taught me in Jehovah's word. Thank you my dearest Grandpa. - Posted by: Biatta née Funk (Eldest granddaughter and first grandchild ) on: Dec 12, 2013
