E. PHILLIPS SCHACHTER E. Phillip Schachter, 84, died peacefully in Winnipeg after a lengthy illness, at Victoria General Hospital, on Saturday, October 21, 2006. He is survived by his wife Lee, his children and their spouses Harry and Donna Schachter of Toronto, Seema Schachter and Peter Adamo of Winnipeg, Miral and Robert Gabor of Winnipeg, and Saul and Bouamek Schachter of Winnipeg, and grandchildren, Benjamin and Miriam Schachter, Michael, Sarah and Ryan Paddock, Andrew, Samuel and David Gabor, and Simeon Hunt. Phillip Schachter was born in Winnipeg in 1922. He was a graduate of St. John's High School and the University of Manitoba Faculty of Commerce. Returning to school, he took a law degree with outstanding marks. He loved the profession of the law, serving with great distinction for many years as a crown prosecutor with the Attorney General's Department for the Province of Manitoba. He also served his community devotedly, twice holding the position of president of his synagogue, Temple Shalom. Phillip Schachter was an individual of great good humour, compassion and integrity. A fine public speaker, gregarious and outgoing, he was beloved by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 24 at 11:00 a.m., at Temple Shalom, 1077 Grant Avenue, Winnipeg. Internment will take place at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery, 230 Armstrong. The meal of condolence will follow at 1542 Mathers Bay West. Shiva will be observed at 589 Niagara Street on Wednesday and Thursday. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to Temple Shalom (453-1625) or to a charity of your choice.
