GEORGE DE JAEGER Peacefully, on Friday, October 20, 2006, George De Jaeger of Winnipeg, MB, passed away at Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 85 years. Left to mourn his loss are his beloved children, daughter Janice Windsor (Dennis) of Lumby, BC, son Lorne (Audrey) of Winnipeg and daughter Lorraine Powelson (Dennis) of Avon, CT.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brother Louis of Coldbrook, Nova Scotia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Jean (nee Holland) in 2003; his parents Laurent and Alfredina; brother Ray (Emile) and sister Lucille. All have been blessed by his generous spirit. George was born and raised in West Kildonan, married his childhood sweetheart and the love of his life, Jean, with whom he enjoyed over 62 years of marriage. They made their home first in West Kildonan, and then moved to St. James in 1960, where they lived the rest of their lives. George loved life and lived it to the fullest. He worked many years for the former Shea's Brewery, Brewery Products, Labatt's, and finally Associated Beer Distributors, from which he retired. For fun he enjoyed working on relatives' farms, driving a big rig (Bigger Bros.), fixing just about anything for anyone, attending the Trappers Festival in The Pas, and lending a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He met life's challenges head-on with a positive attitude and that legacy will live on with all who knew and loved him. George was a member of the Belgium Legion No. 107. Failing health necessitated George's moving to Deer Lodge Centre shortly after Jean passed away. There, he and his family, received loving supportive care during the final years of his life. He enjoyed joking with the staff, the regular musical entertainment on Main Street , afternoon beverages at Chad's and the varied activities and outings. The family extends their sincere gratitude to each and every staff member who touched George's, and their lives, in such a special way during these difficult years. A Celebration of George's Life will be held on Thursday, October 26 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Deer Lodge Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Deer Lodge Centre Foundation, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3J 0L3. George's arrangements have been entrusted to the Family Owned Funeral Chapel of: WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
