Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN S. BORGFORD July 11, 1914 - October 22, 2006 John lived a full and interesting life. Born in Arnes, MB, and later moving to Selkirk where his first job was working on the fishing boats. John attended the University of Saskatchewan and the RAF Radar School in Clinton,ON. He served in England with the RAF Bomber Command as a Radar Mechanic and was discharged in 1945. In 1949 John married Doris Green and had two children. John is predeceased by his wife, Doris and his daughter, Valdine. John worked and retired from the Post Office after 33 years. John was a Canadian who was very proud of his Icelandic heritage. He visited Iceland in 1974 and was a strong supporter of the Icelandic Program at the U of M. John leaves his son Brian (Leslie) and was predeceased by two sisters Helga and Inga and his brother Helgi. A Special thanks to Lee, a longtime friend of the family and who has played a major role in John's later years. Brian would like to thank the staff at Eastgate Lodge in Beausejour, MB, for the comfort and excellent care given to his father in the last months of his life. John firmly believed in the power of positive thinking and has touched many who will always remember him with a smile. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 25 at 1:00 p.m. in the Selkirk Lutheran Cemetery. If you wish, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Cancer Society. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
