MARGARET DALE KENNEDY (nee MCKELVIE) Peacefully on Monday, October 23, 2006 at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, Margaret passed away with her family by her side, one day after her 89th birthday. To cherish her memory, she leaves behind her loving husband of 64 years, William Pete Coulter Kennedy, also at Riverview. She will be deeply missed by her children, Gary (Sue), Bill (Janet), Dale (Don Bedard) and Rob (Claudette Leclerc). Her memory will live forever in the hearts of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Brian, Lisa, Kameron, Rob; Daniel, Megan, Christian (Jennifer Pouteau), Camille, Cara, Zoƫ, Leeam and many nieces and nephews. Born of Scottish parents - Lilias Minnie Craig and John Dale McKelvie, former President of the St. Andrews Society - Margaret grew up in the Wolseley area in Winnipeg, living on Telfer Street and Craig Street and Valour Road, attending Wolseley School and Kelvin. Her two siblings were Marion Coleman (now deceased, with two surviving children), and Charles (five children), now 90 years old and going strong. Margaret was born in Winnipeg in 1917. Her life revolved around family, friends and church - Chalmers United, Home Street United and Norwood United. After working at Eaton's, she married William Pete and took on the loving task of a being a mother, full time. Family retreats in the summer included Headingly, Victoria Beach and White Lake. She created a happy home, rich with love and laughter, singing, home cooking - and the hard work that comes with having kids, friends, and a cottage at the lake. Next to her family, her passions were whistling tunes in the morning, making delicious desserts and planting beautiful flowers. How cool is that? Mom's faith in God gave her the inner courage to face the many challenges she encountered in life. At Norwood United Church, she was involved in: Unit 5, UCW; Canadian Girls In Training; and was a founding member of the Time Out craft classes in the 1970s. She always seemed to be happy and smiling, not to mention humming, everywhere she went. She had the sparkle that makes life worth living. She shared her love of life with her family and friends and she was loved in return. A memorial service in Margaret's honour will be held at St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Rd. at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 27 with a reception to follow. A private family interment ceremony was held at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, near the Old Rugged Cross. The family would like to extend thanks to the staff at Riverview Health Centre for their special care and concern. In her memory, please make donations to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, Unit 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 or the Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 9Z9.
