FRANK RONALD BARBOUR April 8, 1939 - October 23, 2006 Peacefully at home with his family by his side, Frank passed away after a courageous battle with mesothelioma. Frank will be lovingly remembered by his wife Helen, daughter Lori (Ed), son Ron (Karen); grandchildren Rick (Leighan), Brett, Cody and Connor. He was predeceased by his father Bill, mother Jean, brother Bill and sister Merle. Frank was born and grew up in St. Boniface. He worked in the printing industry with Bulman Bros. for many years and made a transition to become Union president and eventually International Rep of the Graphic Communications International Union until his retirement. Frank enjoyed his cottage at the Big Whiteshell Lake that was a gathering place for his many friends and family. Many hours were spent on the beach enjoying summer sports and ending with happy hour. He enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, golfing and curling. He was a member of the St. Vital Curling Club where he enjoyed his competitive curling. Family was very important to Frank and he spent a great deal of time at hockey arenas supporting his grandchildren where he became known as The Hockey Grandpa. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Maksymiuk and his primary nurse Jennifer. They would also like to thank all the Palliative care nurses, especially Hope, for her compassion and support. A memorial service will be held at the Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Avenue West on Friday, October 27, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Carol Fletcher officiating. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations in Frank's memory may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc., Room ON1160, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 9Z9. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
