Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGLADYS EVA LABONTE (nee COOK) It is our deepest sorrow to announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother Gladys Labonté, on Sunday, October 22, 2006 at the age of 68. Gladys passed away peacefully at her home in Lethbridge, Alberta, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Gladys was predeceased by her husband Lucien, parents Harry and Ellen Cook, sister Emma Cook, brother Donald Cook and twin brother Frederick Cook. She is survived by her daughter Gladys and grandson Jason; son Pierre (Debbie) and grandsons Ryan and Brandon; daughter Yvette and grandson Dustin; son Roger (Terry) and grandchildren Miranda and Chad; son Chantal (Doreen) and granddaughter Sabrina; son Yves (Teresa) and granddaughter Kyla; son Yvon (Sherry) and grandchildren Stephanie, Amanda and Matthew; and son Michael. Gladys is also survived by brother Johnny Cook, sister-in-law Muriel Cook, many brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Gladys was born on March 4, 1938 in Lac du Plage, Quebec and grew up in Montreal. She married her husband Lucien on February 11, 1956 in Montreal. Shortly after they were married, they moved to Germany and then to France from 1956-1959, as Lucien was in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Upon returning to Canada in 1959, Lucien was posted in Bagotville, Quebec, where the family resided until 1978, when they moved to Winnipeg. Gladys resided in Winnipeg until she moved to Lethbridge, Alberta in 2003. Gladys lived for her children and grandchildren. Raising eight children made for a very busy life. She was also a soldier in the Salvation Army Harbour Light Corps. for most of her adult life, which Gladys considered to be her second home. When Gladys moved to Lethbridge, she joined the Salvation Army Lethbridge Community Church. She was very proud to be part of the Salvation Army, it was a very important part of her life. She enjoyed spending time with the numerous close friends she had in both Winnipeg and Lethbridge. Gladys was a kind, loving and energetic women, who was always willing to help others. She had a wonderful sense of humour and loved to joke even in her final days. The family would like to thank Dr. Haberman, the Salvation Army in both Winnipeg and Lethbridge, the wonderful caregivers from Home Care, and the many friends, for their help, support, care and compassion during this time. A viewing will take place prior to the funeral service on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at 11:00 a.m., with the funeral service to commence at 12:00 p.m., at the Salvation Army at 324 Logan Avenue. Internment to follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Avenue. Pallbearers will be Pierre Labonté, Roger Labonté, Chantal Labonté, Yves Labonté, Yvon Labonté and Michael Labonté.
