Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryESTHER LECKER March 3, 1917 - October 24, 2006 Esther Lecker (nee Shuckett) passed away peacefully at home at 89 years. Predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Rachel; brothers, Ben, Nathan, Dave; and sister Goldie Genser; she is survived by her loving husband Manuel; along with their children, Joanne Rothberg (Dick), Robert (Norma) and Brian (Barbara); grand-children, Jodi, Andrew (Jodi), Lindsay, Mira and Adam; sister Fritzi Telpner; brother Morley Shuckett; along with many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Born and raised in Winnipeg at the family home at 125 Machray Ave., with time also spent in Fork River, MB, she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from the University of Manitoba in 1938. She married the love of her life, Manuel on December 2, 1944, and they were inseparable for almost 62 years. Raising their three children at 438 Montrose St., with special times spent at Clear Lake, Esther's greatest joys were her five grandchildren. Each one was special to her and each of them shared a special bond and love with their Gramma. Instead of saying goodbye or goodnight, Gram would always say love yah baby . To each of her nieces and nephews, she was known as my favourite Auntie Esther . Giving to others was so important to her. For many years, she volunteered her time with Hadassah-Wizo and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Manitoba Association of Optometrists. Talented with either a knitting needle or needle and thread, she was famous for her name-embroidered sweaters, scarves and purses. A cancer survivor of over 30 years, she was an inspiration to many. Never one to complain, even when the last few years were so difficult, she had a wonderful and beautiful life. A celebration of her life took place on Wednesday, October 25 at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, officiated by Bill Weissmann, with special eulogies by her granddaughters, Jodi, Lindsay and Mira. Pallbearers were Lindsay, Mira and Adam Lecker, John and Jordan Farber and Arthur Blank. Special thanks to her caregivers, Ruth, Myrna, Lydia, Bella, Vangie, and Adelaide, along with Dr. Arthur Blank for their wonderful care and friendship. In lieu of flowers, donations can by made to the charity of one's choice.
