MONTY (DORIS) LEE (HENDERSON)
Date of Passing: Sep 30, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMONTY (DORIS) LEE (nee HENDERSON) Peacefully on September 30, 2006, at the Morley House Personal Care Home, Shoal Lake, in her 84th year. Monty is survived by her husband, Wilf, children: Lindy, Sherry, Mark, and Debby, their spouses: Ken, Rory, Maria and Floyd and grandchildren: David, Daniel, Kaitlan, Kathryn. Erica and Cam. She is also survived by her sister, Mavis and brothers: David (Joyce) and Douglas (Freda) and sister-in-law, Gwen; and brother-in-law Fred. She was predeceased by her sisters: Marguerite, Florence (Clarence) and brother-in-law Ben. Monty was born in 1922, to parents George and Daisy, in the prairie town of Strathclair, the gregarious middle child of a large family (Marguerite, Florence, David, Douglas, Mavis). As a child, she habitually drew in her school books. From her early days, Monty possessed style, humor and hospitality. She loved to meet people and could make new friends anywhere. The Coffee Lady always had the pot on for friends new and old. She experimented with a variety of careers before attending art school, and at the age of 28, married Wilf, a hard-working and athletic farmer who literally swept her off her feet with his dancing. She put aside her art for several years to raise children, putting her creative energy into ornate birthday cakes, Valentine boxes and costumes. Although she referred to herself as Mrs. Bribe and Threat, she was a favourite of her nephews and nieces as well as the neighborhood kids, due to her generosity, her bin of dress up clothes and her never ending supply of cookies. She and Wilf traveled frequently with car trips to the states and international trips. In her forties, she began to paint again and produced work showing her love of life. In her later years, she was a source of support, admiration and love for all her grandchildren, while indulging them often with grasshopper pie and double chocolate cake. Monty's last year was made special by extra visits from Mavis, David, and other of the Henderson clan, as well as support and caring by her other daughters Sandi and Carolynne. The family is very grateful to the Home Care staff, Dr. Venter and the wonderful staff of the Shoal Lake Hospital and Morley House. A celebration in memory of Monty's life will be held on Saturday, November 4, at the Strathclair Cemetery, at 2:00 p.m. followed by a get together and lunch at the Municipal Hall. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in lieu of flowers. Remembrances and condolences may be emailed to raesfs@mts.net Rae's Funeral Service of Shoal Lake and Erickson are in care of arrangements. (204) 759-2160
