Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGUDMUNDUR HERNET BARDARSON Peacefully on Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at the Gimli Community Health Centre, Hernet passed away with his family by his side, at the age of 86 years. He will be sadly missed by his children, Carol (Roy Gudmundson), Lillian (Wayne Hess), Dennis, Valdine (Claudine Bush), Lorna (Todd Smith); his eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; his loving companion Johanna Hjorleifson and her children, Gloria (Ernie), Darlene (Bob), Linda (Ron), Brenda (Harry), Kathy and Lorraine. Also surviving is one sister Runa Cuffling of Victoria, BC. He was predeceased by his parents, Eirikur and Margret; brothers, Arnold, Siggi, and Edgar; sisters, Inga and Valla; and his children's mother Evelyn. Dad was born in Geysir, MB on January 23, 1920. As a young man, he tried his hand at whatever work was available - fisherman, farmhand, truck driver, store clerk, and postmaster. He married Evelyn Johnson and he moved his young family to Parson, BC to work in the logging industry. Returning to Manitoba, he settled into the construction business as a grader operator. This career took him all over Manitoba roads as well as the Winnipeg Airport and in 1965 to Ceylon (Sri Lanka) to build airport runways there. Dad liked a challenge and whatever he undertook to do he did well. There was nothing he couldn't repair. Many of his attributes were passed on to his children. He was a warmhearted and compassionate person. He had a soft spot in his heart for dogs. Cremation has taken place with a private family interment. A memorial service will be held at Gilbart's Funeral Chapel, 1st St., in Gimli on Monday, October 30 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Trudy Thorarinson officiating. Honourary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. R.C. Patel, the staff at the Gimli Hospital and to the homecare workers who did so much for Dad. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gimli Cemetery, Box 1246, Gimli, MB R0C 1B0 or to a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli, in care of arrangements.
