HENRY BASIL TUCKER Henry Basil Tucker, aged 86, passed away on October 25, 2006, at Poseidon Care Centre. Henry was born December 1, 1919 in Ste. Rose du Lac, MB. He was the sixth child of Basil and Marie Tucker. Educated in Ste. Rose he joined the army in June 1941 and saw service overseas in the United Kingdom and Europe until February 1946. In 1947 he purchased a farm north of Ste. Rose where he spent many years farming along with his brother Louis and their cousins. He married Grace Beasse (nee Davey) November 18, 1961 at which time Henry moved to Grace's farm south of Ste. Rose. They farmed there together until 1973 when they moved to Winnipeg where Henry worked as a handyman until retirement. Henry was predeceased by his wife Grace in 1997; his father Basil in 1962; his mother Marie in 1970; brothers, Raymond, Stanley and Louis; and sisters, Dora, Gertie and Sylvia. He will be lovingly remembered by his son Terry and his wife Doreen; grandchildren, Anita and Arlene; great-grandchildren, Ashleigh, Amanda, Braden, Kaitlyn and Carlie; sisters, Noellie (Joe) Monteyne and Edna Poulin; sisters-in-law, Aggie Tucker, Gertie Tucker, Vi Rankin, Vernice Wray and Louise Davey; as well as by many nieces and nephews. Henry was a farmer and a spectacular gardener. He tended his plants with care and devotion and as a result reaped wonderful harvests. He always saved seeds of the best specimens for the next year and springtime would result in hundreds of milk cartons becoming the home for new seedlings in preparation for the garden. As well as tending the garden he and Grace loved to fish and go into the wilderness to pick berries. Although gardening was his number one hobby Henry also loved a good game of cribbage. Henry had a keen interest in world affairs and kept up to date by reading the Free Press cover to cover and listening to the news regularly. Henry was not a very religious man but had a conviction of their being a greater being. He was a man of few words and although not a demonstrative person you knew he cared. He maintained communication with his immediate family and was always glad to get news of his nieces and nephews. In later life, his relationship with Terry and his family brought him great happiness. A memorial service will be held in celebration of Henry's life at Green Acres Funeral Home, Hwy. No. 1 E at Navin Road at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 1, 2006. Urn placement will follow in Green Acres Cemetery.
