DORIS MARY MASKELL January 29, 1923 - October 24, 2006 It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Doris Mary Maskell (McKenzie) in Kelowna, BC on Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at the age of 83 years. Doris was born January 29, 1923 in Fenwood, SK, to Robert and Doris McKenzie. She was predeceased by her husband, Reginald; parents, Robert and Doris; brother-in-law Arthur Adams; sister-in-law Muriel McKenzie, and nephew Ted McKenzie. Doris is survived by her son, Bob Elliott of Saskatoon, SK and his children, Kara McNair of Vancouver, Jeffery Elliott of Toronto, and Colleen and Sean Elliott of Saskatoon; her son Doug Elliott of Melbourne, Australia and his wife Denise and their daughters, Louise, Nicole and Danielle; her stepdaughter Trish Maskell of Vancouver; her brother Harry McKenzie and his sons, David and Kim (Bonnie) of Toronto; her sister Bessie Adams of Kelowna, and her daughters, Peggy (Jack) Gares of Kelowna, Wendy (Murray) Setter of Winnipeg, and her son Blaine (Karen) Adams of Calgary; her aunt Evelyn Higham and cousin Alice (Mike) Auger of Kingston, ON, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Doris grew up in Fenwood, SK and went to high school in Melville, SK. She moved to Winnipeg in the late 1940's. She began working in the mid 1950's after Bob and Doug were in school. She worked for the T. Eaton Company, first in the Fur Department and later in the Toy Department where she worked her way up to Manager in the Polo Park Store. Doris retired from Eaton's in the mid 1980's. As her sons were growing up, Doris was active in the UCW (United Church Women), taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir and played the organ and the piano for church services. She was a member of the Olive Branch Historic Rebekah Lodge serving as treasurer, Noble Grand, Past Noble Grand and received the Degree of Chivalry. On October 8, 1982, Doris married Reg Maskell and they had 17 wonderful years in Winnipeg and then later in Kelowna, where they moved to in 1992. Doris was a great seamstress and knitter. She continued to show her love and support for her family by staying in close contact with them through letters, phone calls and visits while she was still able to do so. In 2003, Doris moved to the Cottonwoods care facility. During her time there she made some special friendships. Doris died peacefully at Cottonwoods. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Cottonwoods for their support and kindness to Doris. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 27 at 4:00 p.m. at the Springfield Funeral Home in Kelowna. At Doris' request, a graveside service will also be held in Melville, SK. This will take place on Saturday, November 4 at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cottonwood Unit A, 2255 Ethel St., Kelowna, BC V1Y 2Z9. In Kelowna arrangements are entrusted to Springfield Funeral Home (250) 860-7077. In Melville arrangements are entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home (306) 728-4221.
