KEN KRAWCHUK On Friday, October 27, 2006 Ken died peacefully surrounded by family after a four year struggle with mesothelioma (lung cancer). Ken was born September 5, 1946 in Winnipeg, attending school in North Winnipeg, United College and University of Manitoba. He became a high school teacher, bringing history to life for over 30 years at River East Collegiate. He established life-long friendships with many teachers and students. Ken organized and hosted a fishing derby for colleagues for over 25 years up until June 2006. Ken's lifelong passions were fishing, cottaging and cross-country skiing. Since his retirement in 2001, he and Marylou were able to fulfill their desire for travel and visited many interesting locations. Happiest times were spent among family and friends at the cottage in Ontario, the home at St. Andrews and finally at Oak Meadows near Portage la Prairie. Ken had wonderful neighbours who assisted and supported him over the years. He had a positive outlook on life, which helped him to endure his treatments over the past four years. Ken met Marylou in 1966 and were happily married for 37 years. They have been blessed with wonderful, supportive children Nadine and Wade (Katie). Ken will be fondly remembered by his sister Jocelyn Berkis (Ken); mother-in-law Violet Bell; sister-in-law Diane Holmstrom (Dave); and brother-in-law Gordon Bell (Laura). His niece and nephews, many special friends and his faithful companion Reggie also survive him. Family was very important to him and family events kept him positive and optimistic the past few years. Ken received excellent care from the physicians and nursing staff, especially Dr. Maksymiuk at CancerCare, Dr. Lambda at Health Sciences Centre, Dr. Fair and Dr. Parham. We thank the nurses and doctors for their care and compassion during this difficult time. A celebration of Ken's life will be held on Wednesday, November 1, at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the Winnipeg Humane Society. Arrangements entrusted to: Glen Eden Funeral Home 4477 Main Street 338-7111 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of condolences at www.gleneden-mb.ca
