CELIA BOYANISKY (BASARABA)
Date of Passing: Nov 01, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCELIA BOYANISKY (nee BASARABA) It is with deep sadness and a sense of peace that we announce that Celia passed away on November 1, 2006 surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 87, at the Golden Door Centre. Missing her terribly, but proud to rejoice in her memory are her four children, Bill (Marlene), Nadia, Doreen/Dolly (Ron), and Kathy (Jim); and her ten grandchildren, Miles, Karen (Tony), Tracy (Tony), Tanya, Tara (Cory), David, Daniel, Stephen, Hayley and Alex; and her four great-grandchildren, Max, Shayna, Brady and Paige. Celia also leaves to cherish her memory, three siblings, Peter (Natalie), Ollia Bagan, and Nestor (Nettie), as well as two sisters-in-law, Elsie and Nadia, and many nieces and nephews and their families. Celia was predeceased by her loving Taras (after 60 years of marriage) in year 2000, her three brothers, Pat (and his loving Ollia), Orest and Ewhen; and her parents Harry and Petronella Basaraba (nee Slonowski). Celia was born in Pine River, Manitoba in 1919, a first generation Ukrainian Canadian, the second of 7 children. She was raised in Pine River where she met and wed her Taras. Together they followed his teaching career, finally settling in Winnipeg in 1952. Mom and Dad raised all of their children with a strong sense of family values, respect and love; and for Mom, a true sense of joy and appreciation for a full day of shopping at the mall mixed with a great cup of coffee. Our Baba was famous for her Ukrainian cuisine and entertaining, at least 2 of her puffed wheat squares for every occasion, her custom knit kopchi slippers, her creative tailoring and mending skills and unconditional love and support. Her generous spirit has been enjoyed by many over the years, who visited and even lived with our family in their times of need. Baba never questioned or judged; she just loved! Over the last 2 years, Celia's burden was heavy as she started to slip away, but her quiet dignity, those crystal blue eyes, her bright smile and her spirit never strayed. We are so grateful and blessed to have had her in our lives. What a great lady! Funeral service will be held at the Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, on Monday November 6, 2006 at 10:30 a.m., followed by interment at Glen Eden, and then lunch at Cropo. Her grandsons will be carrying her to be next to her Taras. Our family wishes to thank all the staff at the former Fort Garry Care Centre and the Golden Door Centre, for their TLC.
