ISLA MARGUERITE OATES (nee Whiteway) February 16, 1927 October 29, 2006 On Sunday, October 29, 2006 at the West Park Manor Personal Care Home, Isla died at the age of 79 years. Isla is survived by her four sons ( you boys ) Sandy (Brenda), Chuck (Debbie), Tom (Roxanne) and Tim; three grandchildren, Stacy (Jason), Christopher, Jeremy and great-grandson Jessy; sisters Eileen, Kay and Gertrude; brothers Fred, Carl, Michael and George as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Dave in 2004 and elder brother, Earnest in 1972. Mom was born in Berens River, MB as the second child, where she grew up as part of a commercial fishing family. When she was 15 years old, she moved to Winnipeg to attend the St. Charles Convent. Her faith in the Lord was always one of the most important parts of her daily life. Mom and Dad were married November 1953 in Saskatoon, SK. When their early life of living in RCMP detachment residences led them back to Winnipeg, Mom took on some outside of the home jobs at various Tamblyn Drugs locations in the old Crestview K-Mart, Polo Park, River and Osborne and enjoyed working with the public. She loved her time with the family, self-proclaiming herself as the hostess with the mostess . There was always room in her heart (and home) for friends and relatives. In compliance with family wishes, a private family funeral service was held. Our family would like to thank the staff at West Park Manor Personal Care Home for all of their kindness, dedication and continuous care. You have been Isla's extended family. Donations may be made in Isla's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg R3L 0K6, 949-2000.
