HALLUR (ED) EIRIKUR HALLSON With great sorrow the family announces the peaceful passing of Ed Hallson, who joined his beloved wife Myrtle in eternal peace on November 4, 2006 at the Betel Home in Selkirk. Ed was born in Lundar, Manitoba on April 30, 1918 to a large family, and spent his early years on the farm learning values and lessons of hard work and kindness that he carried on throughout his life. Ed was a veteran who served in the Air Force during the Second World War. In 1942 Ed met Myrtle at a dance in Winnipeg and they were wed in 1943 on Ed's birthday. They moved to Lundar following the end of the war. Ed then worked as a baker for four years there, and during this time Ed and Myrtle had three children, Bob, Doris and Donna. In April of 1952, Ed and his family moved to Selkirk so he could start his career as a mechanic at Gordon Motors, where he worked for 34 years until he retired in 1985. Even after retirement, Ed was always busy, helping family or doing projects around the home, where he and Myrtle made the most of their retirement years together. Ed is predeceased by the love of his life Myrtle, his parents, his brothers, Johnny, Harold and Mike, and sister Jen, as well as several stepbrothers and sisters. He is survived by his children, Bob (Elsie), Doris, Donna (Gerry) Fryza, as well as four grandchildren, Randy (Tricia), Cheryl (Greg), Jason (Anna), Dean (Alanna), and a special granddaughter Jaime, as well as five great-granddaughters, Amanda and Danielle Hallson, Bryanna, Naykia and Dakota Massey. Ed is also survived by three sisters, Runa, Inga and Lolly, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Family and friends are invited to join the Hallson family in a service of celebration and remembrance of Ed's life on Wednesday, November 8 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk with Pastor Stan Richards officiating. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family internment will be held prior to the service. The family wishes to thank Dr. Fuchs, the nurses, aides and staff at the Selkirk General Hospital, as well as the Betel Home for their compassionate care of Dad during the last two months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ed's memory to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #42. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
