ELSIE GOLIS ( nee KINNER ) It is with deep sadness and a sense of peace, that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Elsie, surrounded by her loving family, on November 7, 2006 at Concordia Place. Remaining to lovingly cherish her memory, is her beloved husband of 56 years, Henry and her five children, Raymond (Madeleine), Jim (Lynne), Liz, Larry (Liz), Merrilee (Ken), along with her grandchildren, Carly, Joseph, Laura, Gabrielle and Blake; her brother Edward Kinner (Lynda) of Thunder Bay, ON; brother-in-law Chester Golis (Edna) of Winnipeg and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves to mourn her very dear childhood friend, May Blair of Thunder Bay, ON and friends, Joan Klips and Gladys Klapecki of Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her father, Hjalmar in 1945 and her mother, Elizabeth in 1948, her brother Donald in 2004, and brother Raymond in 2005. Elsie was born in Port Arthur, ON on February 16, 1932 and lived there until she married her husband Henry in 1950 and then moved to Transcona. Elsie was a very social person and was involved in her community. She was president of the Transcona Kinette Club in 1961 and part of the Downtown Improvement Zone Committee in the 1980s. She had managed Wescott Factory Outlet for 11 years, and truly enjoyed the various people who were her co-workers and customers. In 1989, she made a trip to Finland which meant a lot to her as this was her parents' homeland. She was able to connect with numerous relatives whom she never had met before, but treated her as if they had known her all her life. Henry and Elsie were able to take numerous trips in their retirement which included Arizona and California, and they wintered in Florida for three years. In 1997, they realized a lifelong dream and took a European tour. Over the years they enjoyed many safaris and activities with their many friends they met through Henry's involvement as a Shriner. We will never forget her sense of style and social grace, her generousity of spirit she was always giving of herself; we'll miss her quick wit and sense of humour, her gift of conversation and her presence. She truly was a people person. The family sincerely thank the caring staff of Concordia Place, including the third floor nursing staff: Helen, Sandy, Wanda, Kim, Nicole, Brenda as well as Chaplain Friesen. Viewing and visitation will be held this evening, November 9, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day Street. A celebration of Elsie's life will follow on Friday, November 10 at 11:00 a.m. also at the chapel with Chaplain Paul Martin officiating. Interment to follow at the Transcona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Society, 105-386 Broadway, Winnipeg MB, R3C 3R6. Elsie will be dearly missed and forever loved. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
