LYNDA DARLENE SLATNIK (nee RIEU) Lynda passed away peacefully at the Riverview Health Centre on Tuesday, November 7, 2006, following a courageous yet all too brief battle with cancer. Lynda has gone to join her husband, William Robert and her Dad, Norman Rieu, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins of the Rieu and Slatnik families. Left to celebrate her life are her two sons, Trevor (Treva and Jennifer) of Edmonton, AB and Todd; her Mom Sophie Rieu; her two sisters, Gail Baker and Wendee Rieu (Mary), in addition to extended family and friends. Lynda was born in the St. Boniface Hospital on December 5, 1946 and grew up and attended school in Charleswood. Following high school, Lynda left for Calgary with friends to start her new life. It was here that she met the love of her life, Rob, and shortly after that first meeting, the two returned to Winnipeg for the ceremony that would join them in marriage for 36 years. Soon after the wedding, Lynda and Rob would return to Winnipeg where Lynda worked at Xerox for many years before finding her true calling, Real Estate, which she excelled at for more than a decade, until her illness. Lynda's great escape in life was the outdoors. She and the family spent a great amount of time at Falcon Lake, and she truly loved the area and spending time with her toes in the sand while at the beach with her family. At home in the city, her passion was gardening, and it was in the soil planting flowers and making sure they looked their best, where she was most at peace. The family would like to thank everyone for their kindness and support, including the staff on 3 East at Riverview Health Centre. Donations in Lynda's memory can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3. Funeral service will take place on Friday, November 10 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Anglican Church, 3830 Roblin Blvd. Interment will follow in Green Acres Cemetery, Hwy. No. 1 E. at Navin Road.
