STANLEY WILLIAM DUKE It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Stan died peacefully with his family at his side on November 9, 2006 at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 73. Holding him in loving memory are his wife and best friend of 52 years, Eleanor (nee Werbicki); son Darren and wife CiCi; daughter Debbie Fortier and partner Clyde Raven; son Kevin and wife Carolyn; sister Doreen Rogers and husband Larry; sister-in-law Ollie Werbicki; grandchildren, Nicole and Blake Fortier, Brittany Flores and Troy Arthur; and numerous nieces and nephews. Stan was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on August 30, 1933 and grew up on his parents' (Frank and Olga) farm in Ostenfeld, Manitoba. He went to school in Winnipeg where he met his loving wife in junior high, and they set forth building a life together after getting married in 1954. Stan was hired by the Canadian National Railway in 1952 and went on to devote 38 years of loyal service. But an even greater devotion was spent on his family, the aspect of his life he was most proud of. In addition to encouraging his children in numerous sporting activities and Cub Scouts and Brownies, he derived much pleasure from taking his family along on vacations throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. Of even greater importance to his loving family was his unconditional love and support that will be forever missed but never forgotten. Stan was also active in the community, whether while coaching youth baseball or participating in the Knights of Columbus and Toastmasters. He also enjoyed golfing and curling, and was a past-president of the Fort Garry Curling Club. One of his favourite activities after a 1995 stroke was travelling with his devoted wife to places around the globe, both near and far. Those who knew Stan will always remember his charm, wit and good nature. His family is blessed to have experienced his generous spirit and thoughtful guidance that will be passed on to future generations. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of St. Boniface Hospital for their tender care in Stan's final days, especially Dr. Pascal and nurses Anne and Tracy. A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on November 13 at St. Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood in Windsor Park. A private family interment will be held at Holy Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, R3L 0K6. KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
