JOHN DOUGLAS NOTON
Born: Aug 13, 1949
Date of Passing: Nov 08, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN DOUGLAS NOTON With shock and profound sadness we tell of the death of our gentle and loving head of the family, John Douglas Noton on November 8, 2006 at Portage la Prairie at the age of 57 years. He was predeceased by parents Joan and Doug, niece Jane and brother-in-law Dan. He will forever be missed by his wife Kerry, sons Reid and Blake, brother Mark (Catherine) Noton of Winnipeg, sister Rilla (Sid) Drobot of Winnipeg, nieces, nephews and many in-laws. John was born on August 13, 1949 as the oldest of three into the loving home of Joan and Doug Noton. He lived a happy childhood in the town of Souris, MB right on the river at the end of the swinging bridge. He spent many hours swimming in and playing hockey on that river and scaring tourists racing across the bridge on his bike. It was during this time that his parents instilled in him a sense of humour and decency which he carried with him always. He received his teaching education at the University of Manitoba and went on to teach English at Ecole Prince Charles School for 34 years. His early teaching years included lots of socializing and playing guitar with his many friends - all of whom (including his family) wondered if he'd ever settle down. Well, he finally did. John's family was by far the most important part of his life. He was utterly devoted to the welfare and happiness of Kerry and the boys and spent every day with their interest in mind. He also thoroughly enjoyed his many hours around the fire and poolside with his and Kerry's extended family, his friends and pets. He also loved camping, fishing, watching movies, yard sales, skiing and playing hockey; always sharing these times with family and friends. His quiet time was spent reading and napping. John set the bar for how to treat yourself and others. He lived a rich and full life and his sparkle, wit, kindness and patience will be remembered with warmth and fondness by everyone. Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 14 at 5:00 p.m. at Portage Alliance Church (2375 Sask. Ave. W.) led by Wilma Shirriff. As expressions of sympathy if friends so wish, donations may be made in John's memory to Children's Wish Foundation of Canada, P.O. Box 1106, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3C5 or to Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St. Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7. A tree will be planted and cared for in memory of John by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. 857-4021. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
