WALTER EARL ARTHUR November 20, 1916 - November 10, 2006 Peacefully at Seven Regions Health Centre on Friday, November 10, 2006, Walter passed away at the age of 89. He will be lovingly missed by his wife Mary; daughters, Beverly (Howard), Gail (Ken), Louise (Bob), Lois (Darryl), Carole (Keith); as well as 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn three sisters, Frances, Grace, and Ruth (Eldon) and brother-in-law John. He was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Frances Arthur, brother Henry and wife Sarah, sister Marjorie and husband Archie McIntyre, sister Valma, daughter Debbie, granddaughter Barbie, and brothers-in-law Buck Stewart and John Scora. Walter was born at Dewar Lake, SK on November 20, 1916. He attended school in Saskatchewan graduating from Smiley Collegiate. He moved to the Mayfeld district with his brother Henry in the fall of 1936. He married Mary Elizabeth Wilson on June 3, 1944, celebrating their 62nd anniversary this year. Together they farmed in the Mayfeld district in addition to running the Mayfeld Store and post office. They retired to Gladstone in April 1977. Walter was an active member in his community. He was involved for many years with the Knox United Church, Silver Stream School Board, and the Manitoba Pool Elevator Board. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and Eastern Star. He was active with the Gladstone Square Dance Club, Senior Citizen Club, Gladstone Agricultural Society, and the Gladstone United Church. He also delivered Meals on Wheels and was a volunteer ambulance driver. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing, curling, and gardening. He was devoted to his family and was always available to support or lend a helping hand when needed. The family wishes to extend their thanks to Dr. Berman Wong and all the staff at the Gladstone Hospital for their understanding and compassionate care of Walter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Seven Regions Palliative Care. Funeral Service will be held Monday, November 13 at 11 a.m. in the Gladstone United Church. Clarke's Funeral Home, Gladstone in care of arrangements.
