GERALD ANTHONY HOULAHAN 1941 2006 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald, 65, peacefully at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband, wonderful father, and dedicated grandfather, he will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by Shirley, his wife of 36 years; daughters, Cindy, Tanya (Jean-Louis), and Lara (Antony); and grandchildren, Brittany, Brett, Alex, and William. Also left to mourn are his brothers and sisters Jack (Ruth), Ed (Marie), Eugene (Doreen), Larry, Reta, Jim, Madeline, Ann, and Joe (Linda). He was predeceased by his sister Mary Theresa, and parents Kathleen and Joseph. Gerald grew up in Dashwood, ON, and obtained a bachelors degree in philosophy from the University of Western Ontario. He enjoyed a 32 year career in the Canadian Air Force, which took him and his family across Canada and Europe. He had a deep love of reading and learning, which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. Gerald was a caring person with a strong commitment to family. As a devoted grandfather he enjoyed driving Brittany to the ranch, attending Brett's hockey and baseball games, and sharing his love of reading and sense of fun with Alex. The family would like to thank CancerCare Manitoba and the Health Sciences Centre for the excellent care provided. Sincere thanks also go to the staff of the Palliative Care Program and Home Care, who helped us make it possible for Gerald to stay at home as he wished. In accordance with Gerald's wishes, cremation has taken place following a private family service. A private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Arrangements entrusted to: Glen Eden Funeral Home 4477 Main St. 338-7111
