MARGARET (BARBARA) FERMAN Surrounded by her family Marge Ferman, aged 87, passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital on Saturday, November 11, 2006. She was predeceased by her husband Martin; infant son Larry and granddaughter Cindy Richter; sisters, Kay Puirko, Anne Ivanyshyn, Mary Firman, Rosie Steer and brothers, George, Nick, Alex, Mike and John Laba. Her son Adam (Bernice) and her daughter Carol Richter survive Marge. She is also survived by her sister Jean Bargenda; her five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews across Canada and the United States. Marge was born and raised in Medika, Manitoba, the ninth of 12 children, born to Pauline and Mike Laba. Her first job at age 13 was cutting wood with her sister Rosie for .25 cents a cord. At 15 she began a 52 year career in the garment industry working for Royal Garments, Canadian Sportswear, H H Garments, Superior Garments, Lantry Leathers, Sterling Stall Garments and as a consultant to Nygard International. Marge loved to sew and cook for her family and friends. She was famous for her perogies, cabbage rolls, cookies and cinnamon buns. She enjoyed her travels to Las Vegas and horse races at Assiniboia Downs before she lost her eyesight. Marge was a member of the Holy Eucharist Church Senior's Club and accompanied them on numerous trips to the U.S.A. She loved to go grocery shopping and walk the St. Vital Mall with Bernice on Saturdays. Her failing sight never tempered her joy in playing the VLT's. She took great pride in her home and the accomplishments of her family. Our family would like to extend our gratitude and our expressions of thanks to Dr. Kevin Friesen, Dr. Joel Gingerich and all the staff in the Emergency Department and 8A Palliative Care at St. Boniface Hospital for their kind and professional support. Thank you to Dr. Ashvin Shah and to Dr. Shojania for her continuing care. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, November 15 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. with Rev. Fr. Walter Klimchuk officiating at 7:00 p.m. Memorial Mass will be said on Thursday, November 16 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church, 455 Douglas Ave. A private family interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be David Ferman, Leslie Bargenda, Ted Firman and Casey Paul. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation.
