WINNIFRED VERA WHITLEY ( nee DUKELOW ) 1915 - 2006 Winnie passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday evening, November 8, 2006 at the Park Manor Personal Care Home, after many very precious moments spent with close family. Winnie was predeceased by her husband Fred and her parents, Arthur and Vera Dukelow and many dear friends. She will be lovingly missed and fondly remembered by her sister Dorothy; her brother Jim (Jean); her daughters, Janice (John) and Joy (Larry); grandchildren, Susan (Doug), Terry (Heather), David (Karen), Jessy and Fred; great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Andrea, Brooke, Carly, Zac and Logan; nieces, Ginny, Brenda and Kim; nephews, Brodie, Glen, Garry and Mike. Mother was born and raised in West Kildonan where she spent many wonderful hours in Kildonan Park and at West Kildonan United Church as as C.G.I.T. leader. She enjoyed happy years in East Kildonan and North Kildonan while she cared for her husband and daughters as well as her parents. Many family hours were spent boating on the Red River. She had a great belief in community and worked tirelessly at John Black United Church as a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent as well as work with the U.C.W. and the Kiwanis Club Ladies Group. She also worked as a school teacher in East Kildonan for a few years. She enjoyed travel and lovely summers at the Lake of the Woods with her husband, Fred, during retirement. After his passing, Winnie spent several years as a hostess for Circle Tours and travelled North America by bus, sharing her enthusiasm for life with those around her. After this she spent a few years with her family in Penticton, BC before returning to Winnipeg. Mother's greatest pleasures in life were her family, her children and her three sets of grandchildren ! She created a wonderful world in our home, full of learning, love and celebration. Family and friends were always welcomed and great moments in life were shared. Winnie will be remembered for her great love of life, her generosity and her sincere, caring nature. She did so much for so many and truly believed in human charity and the goodness of the human spirit. She lived her life to the fullest. As she looked back over the years, she said to us... It's been a wonderful life! The family extends a sincere thank-you to the staff at Park Manor Personal Care Home for the excellent care and thoughtfulness given to Mother. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day Street. Interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, memorial donations may be made to the Children's Hospital. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
