She was predeceased by her husband Joe in 1991, her daughter Doris in 1992 and son-in-law Allan Solmundson in 1993. Surviving to cherish her loving memory are her two daughters, Violet Olson of Arborg and Vilborg (Clifford) Lindstrom of Kelduland; grandchildren, Debby (Willy) Regensburger and Lori (Wayne) Collins, both of Prince Rupert, BC, Caroline (Anthony) Masiak of Silver, MB., Wanda Lindstrom of Winnipeg, Terry (Noella) Lindstrom of Riverton; eight great-grandchildren, Amanda, Terra, Tiffany, Travis, Chris, Kim, Jessica and Leanne; two great-great-grandchildren, Svea and Davian. Mom was born on February 5, 1916 at Fromnes, MB. to the late Magnus and Asta Gislason, the fifth of 10 children. She attended school in Fromnes at the Vestri School. She then went out to work at the Betel Home in Gimli. Later a cook for Bjornson Bros. Fisheries on Lake Winnipeg. There she met Joe Olson and they married in 1942. They settled at Kelduland on the farm near Riverton, MB. where Joe was raised. Caring for Joe's aging parents and his brother John, plus raising three daughters wasn't always easy. In 1944, a fire burnt their home and all it's contents. In 1948, she was near death in a coma from Scarlet Fever. Her strong will and urge to live brought her through. She enjoyed the animals and had a name for all of them. They also raised sheep and carded wool and she made the best socks and mitts. Summers were very busy with barn chores and haying. Many relatives stayed and loved her ponnakukker slatur and lifra pylsa. In 1985, Joe and Helga moved to the Icelandic River Lodge. They were very active there and the New Horizons Club. She remained very active after Joe died. Her door was always open, and you could smell her brown bread. Helga will be sadly missed by all who knew her. We wish to thank all her special homecare workers and also Dr. Magerman and the nursing staff at the Gimli Hospital for all their tender loving care. At her request, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. If so desired, donation's in her memory can be made to Riverdale Place Homes Inc., Box 698, Arborg, MB, R0C 0A0. Dearest Elskan, you have left us We will miss your loving ways But your patience, faith and courage We will remember all our days. Rest in Peace Elsku Modir og Amma Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
