Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEINAR OLAFUR MAGNUSSON September 18, 1922 - November 12, 2006 Suddenly and peacefully, with his family at his side, Einar Olafur Magnusson passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2006 at the Selkirk and District General Hospital. Dad was predeceased by his first wife Verna and second wife Helen; brother Johnny; sister Florence; sister-in-law Julia; sons-in-law, Fred Chapman and Walter Nachbauer. He will be forever loved and sadly missed by his children, Ken Rieck, Shirley Hall, Sharon Chapman, Wayne Vogen (Carol), Heather Nachbauer, Verna Pollard (Vic), Len Magnusson (Sherry), Lori Wieler (Craig) and Randy Magnusson. Also left to mourn his passing are siblings, Lil Nicol, Magnus Magnusson, Sylvia Baty, Victor Magnusson (Helga) and sister-in-law Eva Hawryskho (Bill). Dad leaves 22 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and many, many friends. He also leaves his very best friend J (Jeanette). Dad was born and raised in Selkirk. He grew up working in the family businesses, which included: the dairy farm, the first sanitation truck for Selkirk and delivering coal and gravel. The family ventured into the transportation business by purchasing Will's Taxi and they also ran the only bus service to Breezy Point. They provided excellent year round 24 hour personal, public and emergency service to the Selkirk area. Dad was a fine and good man with a heart to match. He was hard working but always had time to stop and chat, lend an ear and his door was always open. His work ethics were to get the job done no matter what and he set a good example for all. Under his gruff exterior he was a kind and gentle soul. Dad retired in 1978 and over the years developed a daily routine. Dad and Jeanette made numerous excursions around town with their daily stops to Chicken Chef and Tim Horton's. Wherever he went, his presence was known and he always left a little bit of Einar behind. In lieu of flowers, donations to Dad's memory may be made to the Diabetes Foundation of Manitoba, 1114A - 233 Kennedy St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 3J5. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, November 15 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk with Pastor Stan Richards officiating. A viewing will be held one half hour prior to service. Interment will follow in the Selkirk Lutheran Cemetery. He was a Five Star kind of guy and a Proud Canadian Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
