PETER DOWHY February 15, 1920 November. 15, 2006 Papa Pete, the love of our lives, a precious gift from god, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. It gives us comfort to know that you are in the loving hands of Jesus and his angels. May you always have an angel by your side. Dad is survived by his wife Sophie; his four children, Sylvia (Gordon), Wilf (Joy), Gloria (George), and Neil; grandchildren, Judd (Jaime), Steven (Shawn), and Jenna (Stuart); great-grandchildren, Jaxton, Ella and newborn Sophie; stepgrandchildren, Robin (Jarred), Wendy (Derwin); stepgreat-grandchildren, Justin, Keirra and Britt and his sister Josephine (Bill). He was predeceased by his parents, brothers and sisters. Dad was born and raised in Calients and as a young lad he dreamed of being in agriculture. His dream came true when in 1939 he attended the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Agriculture. He returned to Caliento and married his childhood sweetheart Sophie in 1942. They moved to Vita where he worked for many years as a Cream Grader in the creamery. He then started his own business, Papa Pete Roofing. Nothing meant more to Papa Pete than protecting his family. He was a free spirit who loved planting his garden, picking wild berries and mushrooms in the forest and the great outdoors. He also loved playing baseball and later watching his granddaughter play. In his younger years he loved to write poetry for Mama Sophie. Papa Pete was a kind, hard working man who was always there to help us. He was very proud of his family and always praised and encouraged us. The family thanks Dr. Czaykowski and staff at CancerCare Manitoba, Dr. Galessiere, Dr. Duerksen and staff at the Steinbach Hospital and Dr. Saleem and staff at the Vita Hospital for their care and compassion and to all his friends and family who visited him. A very special thanks to Willie and Olga Waskul for their care and support over the years. Pallbearers will be Gordon Bowen, George Slobodzian, Jenna Slobodzian, Stuart Starkey, Bill Skryba, and Willie Waskul. Honorary pallbearers are Judd and Steven Dowhy. Viewing will be held at Vita Funeral Homes Vita Chapel , Vita, Manitoba, Friday, November 17, 2006 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Prayer service to follow viewing at 7:30 p.m. There will be no viewing at the prayers. Private family funeral service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 Mcdermot Ave., Winnipeg, R3E 0V9, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you daddy for your unconditional love, caring heart and support over the years. What will we do without you in our lives?
