Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHIPOLIT SKINDER Beloved Husband, Father and Friend Peacefully with his family at his side, Hipolit passed away on November 14, 2006 at the age of 92. Hipolit Skinder was born May 1, 1914 in Biala Woda, Poland and grew up on his family farm. Several years before the outbreak of the Second World War he completed his military service in the Polish Calvary. During the communist occupation of his homeland in the Second World War, he survived deportation to Siberia and was eventually amnestied to join II Polish Corps under the command of General Wladydlaw Anders. This journey took him from Uzbekistan through Iran, Iraq, Palestine, and eventually into Italy most notably the battle of Monte Casino. After his decorated Military service he chose Canada for his new home and settled in Winnipeg in 1946. He soon met his loving Polish bride of 58 years, Tekla, and married in 1948. Hipolit loved Poland and he loved Canada. Loyal to his friends and comrades he helped establish the Polish Canadian Legion 246 where he remained an active and proud member throughout his life. Hipolit worked as a cement finisher and was highly regarded in the trades, making many friends along the way. He was regularly called upon to participate on major construction projects including the Winnipeg Airport, Centennial Concert Hall, and Richardson Building. He took great satisfaction in his work and was never without work - never missing a day up to his retirement at age 65. Hipolit was a devoted, loving Father and Husband - nothing gave him greater joy than being surrounded by his family. He was a good friend. In turn he was fortunate to receive good friends whom he valued highly. As an avid sportsman he enjoyed the outdoors hunting, fishing and particular pleasure in gardening. His later years at Wendigo resort with family and fine neighbours were especially gratifying to him. Hipolit and Family acknowledge the many good works of those selfless HCA's' and nurses who made his stay at home with family possible - we thank you all, in particular our HCA Linda S. whose dedication, and hard work made the past year so much easier for everyone. Our special appreciation goes out to Family Physician Dr. F. Salem and his staff. We gratefully acknowledge the good people and support services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA). Hipolit is survived by his loving wife Tekla (Pasieka); sons, Edward and Richard; and niece Klementyna of Winnipeg (as well as niece and nephew in Poland). He was predeceased by his parents, Nikodema and Franciszka Skinder; brother Albin and sister Klementine. Prayers will be said on Friday, November 17 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 18 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue with an Oblate Father as Celebrant. Interment to follow in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be members of the Polish Canadian Legion #246. Honorary Pallbearers will be Marcel Dupuis, John Paul Girardin, Henry Dabrowski, George Stevens, Bryan Stastook and Tim Banera. Hipolit will always be remembered for his commitment to family, comrades and friends and for his remarkable energy, strength of character, love of laughter and capacity to see the beauty in the world. He brightened our lives for which we are eternally grateful. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
