FRANCES L. URE (VENIE) Frances L. Ure (Venie), age 97 years, of Winnipeg, Manitoba died peacefully on November 13, 2006, in Calgary, Alberta, her new home since September, 2006. Venie was born October 15, 1909 in Walgrave, England, to Edwin and Ellen Litchfield, and immigrated to Winnipeg in 1911 through Ellis Island, New York. Venie was a lifelong member of St. Thomas Anglican Church where she was very active in the choir for over 80 years. She sang many solos and entered competitions accompanied on the piano by her sister Nellie. She also assisted with the numerous bazaars and teas put on by the church each year. Venie is survived by her daughters, Dorothy J. Aitkenhead of Punta Gorda, Florida (Edward) and Frances A. Purslow of Calgary, Alberta (Neil); and one son Kenneth J. Ure of Winnipeg, Manitoba (Arthur); six grandchildren, Heather Croxton, Kathryn Aitkenhead, Grant, Joel, Todd and Terri Purslow; two great-grandchildren, Kate and Connor Croxton. She was predeceased in death by her husband of 51 years, John, who passed away October 10, 1991. Venie enjoyed good health and good humour her entire 97 years. It was a blessing and a privilege to have had her as part of our lives. A memorial service will be held at McInnis and Holloway Funeral Home in Calgary, Alberta, at 10:00 a.m. on December 18, 2006. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Street, Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3, or a charity of your choice.
