Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAVID SCHELLENBERG April 6, 1920 November 14, 2006 Peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer, David passed away at the Riverview Health Centre. David is survived by three brothers, John, Ben (Eva), Abe (Carol), and three sisters, Justina Baerg, Tina (Peter) Friesen, Henrietta (Andrew) Sawatzky and sister-in-law Grace Schellenberg, many nieces, nephews, friends and relatives. David was born in the Ukraine, the fourth of ten children born to Johann and Justina Schellenberg. Political unrest, economic hardship and a search for freedom led his parents together with other relatives, to immigrate to Canada in 1924. His parents purchased a farm in Gnadental, Manitoba where David received his education in a one room school house. He also attended the Rhineland Agricultural Institute and the Altona Bible School. David had a strong faith. He served the Lord as a Sunday School teacher and also did volunteer work for the Mennonite Central Committee for five years, helping the underprivileged. David was interested in farming and was skilled at it. In 1955 he purchased land in Elm Creek, Manitoba. He was generous in spirit. This was manifested in his support of Bethel Mennonite Church as well as donations to other ministries. In 1999 David retired to Bethel Place in Winnipeg where he enjoyed fellowship with other residents. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethel Mennonite Church, 870 Carter Avenue with viewing prior to the service. Interment in Mennonite Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee for Famine Relief, available at the service. FRIENDS FUNERAL SERVICE 2146 Main Street 339-5555
