DORIS MELANIE KING It is with sorrowful hearts and deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Doris Melanie King (88) on Tuesday November 14, 2006 at her residence, the Sterling House. Our beloved wife, mom, gran, sister, and aunt are survived by her husband Michael King; her sisters, Lena (93) and Helen (98); her daughter Linda Abbott and spouse Rick Abbott; her son David King and spouse Judi King; her grandsons, Adam, Jason, Bradley, Ryan, and Ron. Born on December 29, 1917 in Malonton, MB and the second youngest child of Wasyl and Francis Zloty in a family of three brothers and eight sisters she was among one of the pioneering families in the Interlake. Moving to Toronto at age 17 she began working in the Rosedale area of Toronto for Dr. Veitch as a mother's helper until the Second World War. Then moved into a position at Eaton's sewing uniforms for the armed forces. Happily married June 28, 1941 to her husband of 65 years, Michael King, they began with a delayed honeymoon as Michael's career with CN began with a trip to Niagara Falls. They settled in Richmond Hill, ON and their family grew with the birth of her daughter Linda and later the birth of her son David. They moved to Winnipeg in 1984 following Michael's 42 year career with CN. The move to Winnipeg enabled them to enjoy many weekends and summers at the family cottage in Minaki. She was very proud of her family and enjoyed spending time with friends. Some of her passions in life were travelling, playing bridge, gardening, cooking, sewing, and entertaining. The family would like to thank everyone for their support during this difficult time. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 20, 2006 at 1:00 p.m at St. Vital Parish, 1629 Pembina Hwy. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doris' memory may be made to the Victoria Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, MB R3T 2E8. Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow I am the diamond's glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain I am the gentle autumn's rain. When you awaken in the morning hush, I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die. VICHNAYA PAMYAT THOMSON IN THE PARK FUNERAL HOME AND CEMETERY 1291 MCGILLIVRAY BLVD WWW.THOMSONINTHEPARK.COM 925-1120

  • I think I recall Doris as always dressing well and as having lots of energy and activity and interests. I very much anticipate a phone call from Linda, as our daughter has recently moved to Manitoba. - Posted by: Cynthia Spencer (Friend of Linda Abbott) on: Dec 03, 2018
