STEFAN ROMANIAK On the afternoon of November 17, 2006 Stefan Romaniak, beloved husband, Tato, Dido and Friend was called to eternal rest. He was predeceased by his parents, Josyf and Julia (nee Kushnir), his siblings, Myroslaw, Antonina, Jaroslaw and by numerous relatives and friends. Left to mourn him are his loving wife of 62 years, Irena, daughters, Daria (Rostyslaw Surowy), Roma (Allan Bellhouse) and his cherished granddaughter Andrea, as well as family in Canada, United States, Ukraine and Poland. Born on February 21, 1919 in Drohobych, Ukraine, Tato endured many hardships, and when the Second World War devastated his homeland, he and his wife were forced to flee. In 1948 their ship landed at Pier 21, and on May 3 of that year, they arrived in Winnipeg. Life was not easy for immigrants, but Tato, never afraid of hard work, set out to provide a comfortable life for his family. He enjoyed being self-employed. After operating Aberdeen Grocery for many years, he and his wife retired in 1982. In his retirement he enjoyed his cottage in Glen Bay. Always the perfectionist, Tato was proud of his garden and his well manicured lawn. He was an avid sports fan, but soccer was dearest to his heart, for as a young man he played competitive soccer in Ukraine, Germany, and Winnipeg. He also enjoyed fishing trips to Lake Manitoba, and of course the annual pidpenki picking ritual. Tato had a good heart and was a kind and generous man always willing to help those in need. He was a long time member of Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Cathedral and Prosvita Reading Association. We are deeply saddened by his passing, but we are grateful that the Lord allowed us to be a part of his life. His mischievous smile and twinkling blue eyes will stay in our memories and in our hearts forever. The Family would like to thank the Winnipeg Ambulance Service as well as the staff of Seven Oaks Hospital Emergency unit for their kindness and compassion. Panahyda will be sung at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 21 (tonight) at Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. The Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 22 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Cathedral. Officiating will be Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok, Rev. Father I. Mostivsky and Rev. Protodeacon M. Woroby. Honourary pallbearers will be Dr. T. Snihurowycz, Dr. R. Romanovych, P. Michalishyn, D. Mazur, W. Karabin, W. Leskiw and S. Kozelko. Pallbearers will be sons-in-law, Rostyk and Allan, J. Werhun, S. Werhun, M. Masserey and V. Katchanovski. If friends so desire donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association or the Seven Oaks General Hospital Foundation. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
