DOUGLAS NORMAN BAYLIS 1921- 2006 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Doug Baylis, peacefully at his home on November 16, at the age of 85. Dad was born on April 11, 1921 in Portage la Prairie. There he played hockey for the Portage Terriers where they won the Junior B Provincial Championship in 1940. He came to Winnipeg to join the Army and there he met and married the love of his life, Eilleen Matthews his wife of 64 years. He served overseas with the Royal Canadian Artillery in the European Theatre during The Second World War. Upon his return, he worked for Central Mortgage and Housing and later for Public Works Canada until his retirement in 1986. Dad and Mom raised five children together. Family was always their passion and their favorite time was when they got together with their family. Our camping holidays over the years left us with hundreds of happy and hilarious memories. Any occasion was an excuse for us all to meet at Dad and Mom's home especially in the backyard. Our annual family reunions were a terrific weekend event for all generations. After his retirement, Dad and Mom spent many winters at their trailer in San Diego where they made many friends. This was where Dad made his prized Hole in One. Over the years Dad had many interests. He was an avid golfer and was an active member of Southwood Golf Country Club for 36 years. He also curled at Valour Road (Buffalo) Curling Club for many years. His life long love of music led to several years as a music man with his son Doug. He was always on the sidelines for wrestling, baseball, hockey, curling, gymnastics, sailing and swim events, cheering on his family. Dad was predeceased by his sister Jean, brothers Everett and Roy, and his beloved son Doug (Valerie). He is survived by his wife Eilleen, his children Linda (Jim), Jim (Bev), Greg (Linda), Deb (Dave), ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many relatives and friends. A celebration of life will be held at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home on Saturday, November 25, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers please donate to the charity of your choice. Thomson In the Park Funeral Home 1291 McGillivary Blvd. 925-1120
