HARRY BOSS January 23, 1928 - November 20, 2006 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. - 2 Tim. 4:7 After a courageous battle with cancer, Harry Boss passed away peacefully on Monday, November 20, 2006 at the Riverview Health Centre. Harry was the youngest of eight children and was born at home in Rossdale, Manitoba to Andrew and Katherine Boss. His parents emigrated from Ukraine in the early 1900s. Like many children of the Dirty Thirties , Harry had to quit school at an early age to help on the farm. At 14 years old he rode the rails in search of work. He found it in bush camps in Northern Ontario, on prairie farms and with the C.P.R. He married Margaret (Marge) Wiens in 1956. They farmed at Westbourne and had two sons before moving to Winnipeg in 1962. As an adult, Dad farmed, drove taxi, worked for cleaning companies and was an ice fisherman, among other things, before finding his calling as a bus driver for Winnipeg Transit. This gave him the opportunity to combine two of his favourite pastimes, driving and kibitzing with people. It also provided him with scores of entertaining stories. Dad was predeceased by Mom in 1996. He was also predeceased by his parents, and his siblings, Polly, Steve and Mary. He is sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sons, Gerald (Brenda) and Michael (Diana); grandchildren, Marissa, Shawna and Christine; sisters, Anne, Jenny, Milly (Stan), and brother Mike (Marion), numerous relatives on both sides of our large family and many, many friends. Dad volunteered for several organizations over the years, including Meals on Wheels, C.N.I.B., and Park Manor. He also regularly drove friends and family to various appointments, and cleared snow for neighbours. He was a devoted Christian and steadfast member of St. Saviour's Anglican Church for over 30 years. He was truly a Good Samaritan, always willing to help a person in need and ready to share a joke with anyone he could engage in conversation. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 22 at 7:00 p.m. with special prayers beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Avenue. Funeral Service will be on Thursday, November 23 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Saviour's Anglican Church, Munroe Avenue and Grey Street with Rev. Richard Condo officiating. We offer special thanks to Dad's good friend, Kay Church, who provided him with daily comfort and support. We also thank our family and Dad's many friends for their abiding love and care. We are grateful to Dr. Andrew Maksymiuk, the doctors and staff of CancerCare Manitoba and of Riverview Health Centre for their compassion and respect. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, Riverview Health Centre Foundation or the charity of your choice. Well done, good and faithful servant....
