LAURA LAKER-PERKIN (nee BRUCE) On November 20, 2006 Laura passed away at home with her family by her side after a brief battle with cancer. Laura is survived by her devoted husband of 23 years Herb Perkin; her sons, Ken (Irene), Larry (Connie), Rick (Cynthia); daughters, Deb Cote (Andre), Melody Seaton (Brian) and Candy Laker (Kevin); 16 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; brothers, Brucy (Donna), Benny (Suzanne); sisters, Anita Buors and Cecilia Allard (Leo); eight stepchildren and numerous step-grandchildren and their families. Laura was predeceased by her first husband Arthur Laker in 1980, and son Randy Laker in 1991; her parents Andrew and Albertine Bruce, four brothers and three sisters. Laura was born in St. Laurent, MB in 1931, and later settled in Winnipeg. Laura had a lengthy career as a caterer and was proud to have met many dignitaries, world leaders and celebrities during her 40 years serving at Government House. Laura especially enjoyed the travels with Herb to Holland, Branson, Memphis, New Orleans. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, stepmother, grandmother, aunt and friend to many and will be missed by all who knew her. Prayer service will be held on Wednesday, November 22, at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 23, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Gerard Church, 45 Foster St, Winnipeg. A private interment will follow. The family wishes to thank Dr. Wong, CancerCare Manitoba, W.R.H.A. Palliative program and the dedicated homecare staff. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Laura's memory to CancerCare Manitoba. We'll Love you Forever, We'll Like you for Always, As Long as We're living, Our Mommy you'll be.
