Date of Passing: Nov 18, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryETHEL RUTH HOLLINGSHEAD Love lasts forever. And so do our memories of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Ethel Ruth Hollingshead who died at the Seven Oaks Hospital on Saturday, November 18, 2006. Her humour, letter writing and story telling kept those who loved her in touch across the miles. Dear Ethel was predeceased by her sister Marion and her brother Clair and is survived by two brothers, Ed and Bill; one sister Mildred; two sons, Gary (Christine) and Gregory (Bonnie); one daughter Lisa; and seven grandchildren, Jessica, Christine, Matthew, Brooklyn, Melissa, Jennifer and Bradley. It is with sad hearts that she passed on from our home to the Lord's home, but with consolation that she will be welcomed by her husband David and son Danny. Ethel was a devoted mother and homemaker with many exotic and fond memories of the casual but fulfilling diversified jobs she often held. She had worked as an administrative assistant for the Mexican Ambassador to being a receptionist for H R Block, with many more in-between; RRCC, The Sun, Eaton's, Richardson and Sons and the CPR. Ethel was born and raised in the Toronto area. She travelled often to places such as Las Vegas, Europe, San Francisco and Bermuda and met her husband on a ship returning from England. They married in Toronto where they lived for eight years then moving on to Morewood, Winchester and finally Winnipeg in 1977. Ethel always loved to surround herself with animals; as a young girl she had as many as ten cats. During her life she often entertained friends and relatives and became mom to many more cats (beloved Ratbag), horses, cows, pigs and of course, dogs. Gardening was a lifelong favourite pastime and she took to bird watching later in life; always with a cat or dog at her side. She loved walking Sandy and Murphy two or three times a day. The family wish to thank their friends, neighbours, extended family and medical staff for all their help and support. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, November 25 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Anglican Church, 755 Elm Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Street, Winnipeg, R2L 1X3 or the Leukemia Society, 936 The East Mall, Toronto, ON M9B 6J9. You will be in our hearts forever. neil bardal inc. 949-2200
