LILLIAN HARRIET BALLANTYNE

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLILLIAN HARRIET BALLANTYNE Lillian was born Tuesday, February 5, 1929 at The Pas, MB. She resided at Grand Rapids and also at Gillam for many years. Lillian was united in marriage to Howard Reginald Ballantyne, October 18, 1946 at Grand Rapids. Lillian worked as a janitor for a school in Grand Rapids Reserve. She also worked as a housekeeper at Long Spruce, Limestone and the Gillam Recreation Centre. Most important, Lillian was a homemaker and caregiver for her 15 children, 73 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Lillian enjoyed beadwork, helping others hunt, trap and fish. She was an avid Bingo player. Lillian loved to provide support and sing at close family and friends wake services. Lillian passed away Saturday, November 18, 2006 at St. Anthony's Hospital, The Pas, aged 77 years. Lillian is survived by her children, Christine (Fred) Smith, Sylvia (Wayne) Cosgrove, Ruby (Wayne), Percy, Janice, Elsie, Benny (Raynelle), Hannah (Lawrence) Flett, Gordon, Bart (Sandra), Angus (Ida), James (Loretta), David (Lisa); brother, Raymond Umpherville; brother-in-law, Archie Scott; 73 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Lillian was predeceased by her husband, Howard Ballantyne; daughter, Maryanne McKay; son, Wesley Ballantyne; brothers, Silas Umpherville, Robert Umpherville, Bruce Whitehead; sister, Elsie Mink; parents, Bartholemew and Agnes (nee Jebb) Umpherville; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alfred and Harriet (nee Greenleaf) Ballantyne; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Percy Ballantyne, Solomon and Bernadette (nee Lavallee) Ballantyne, Gladys Scott (nee Ballantyne); grandsons, Bernard Semple, Tyrone Chief, Jordan Lee Ballantyne; granddaughters, Lillian Ruble (nee Ballantyne), Amanda Ballantyne. A wake service will be held Thursday, November 23 at the Chief Peter Beardy Memorial Center, Grand Rapids First Nation, MB. The funeral service will be held Friday, November 24, 11:00 a.m. at St. James Anglican Church, Grand Rapids, MB with Rev. Doug Highway and Rev. Verna Jebb presiding. Pallbearers (sons), Percy Ballantyne, Ben Ballantyne, Gord Ballantyne, Bart Ballantyne, Angus Ballantyne, James Ballantyne, David Ballantyne. Honorary pallbearers: All Lillian's relatives. Interment will take place in St. Andrews Cemetery, Grand Rapids First Nation, MB. Hemauer Funeral Home, The Pas, Manitoba, in care of arrangements.
