GERALD WAYNE KAROL (Stand Still Brown Wolf) Osawi Mahican Kakiskawachikapawit February, 1961 - November, 2006 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Wayne Karol after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Gerald leaves to mourn his wife Kathy; children, Shayne (Candice), Wendy, Brad, Quentin and Tristan; grandchildren, Keanna, Treyson, Shaney and Shayden; his mother Merdina; stepfather Percy Cameron; brother Darryl (Gloria); sisters, Arlene (Lyle), Lori, Sharon Sky (Darryl), Sheila (Brian), Pam and Sharry-Ann; mother-in-law Verna McKay; brothers-in-law, Gary and Randall, Vernon (Donna); sisters-in-law, Delores (Carl), Angela (Darcy) and Arlene (Jason); uncles, Bliss Arthurson, (Connie), Franklin Arthurson (Yvonne), Ralph Arthurson (Virginia), Tommy McIvor, Alex Karol, Charlie Karol (Phoebe), Richard Karol (Sharon) and Victor Pranteau; aunts, Sarah Wiebe, Lillian Morrisseau (George), Ila McIvor (Doug) and Ivy McIvor (Terry), Mildred, Sylvia Hendry, Kathy Bird (Wayne), Roslyn Stahl, Irene Johnson (Bob), Geraldine Laitman, and Violet Pranteau; godchildren, Shawnatel McKay, Bryce McKay, Jennifer Head and Christian Sayeese, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends too numerous to mention. Gerald is predeceased by his little angel , son Cole; father Johnny Karol; father-in-law Gary McKay; brother Darcy; uncles, Stanley Arthurson, Leslie Arthurson, Bill Karol, George Karol, Danny Cook; maternal grandparents Arthur and Susan Arthurson; paternal grandparents John and Rosalie Karol; Auntie Mary Arthurson; cousin Clarice Lavallee Gerald was born and raised in Winnipeg but his job as an ironworker took him to many different places. Gerald and Kathy chose to make Grand Rapids their permanent home for the past 20 years. Gerald had a special love for children and was never shy about expressing it and children loved him in return. He was a hard working, devoted family man and he always made a point of connecting with his family members. He had a deep belief in the importance of family and always demonstrated his love and respect for his aunts and uncles and other family members. Gerald touched all the people he met. Gerald faced his illness with great courage and dignity without complaint and passed away quietly with his family by his side. He will be sadly missed. Wake services were held November 24, 2006 at the Catholic Church Hall, Grand Rapids, MB. Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 25, 2006 at the Catholic Church Hall, Grand Rapids, MB, viewing will begin at 12:00 noon. Interment will take place at St. James Anglican Cemetery. Reverend Doug Highway assisted by Reverend Steve Martin will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Darryl Cameron, Tommy Calder, Victor Pranteau, Dennis Cook, Darcy McKay, Storm Greyeyes, Aaron Packo and Batch Lamirande. Honorary Pallbearers are Shayne Karol, Quentin Karol, Tristan Karol, Dave Hourie, Carl Ferland, Lyle Ironstand, Jody T. Gaskin, Gilbert Sinclair, Bliss Lavallee, Vernon McKay, Garry McKay.   • I wanna send my condolences to the family of this amazing courageous man! I didn’t know this man but I feel a connection to his touching story. I’ve been searching for my biological father for 45 yrs and he has the same name I don’t know if spelling but yeah came across his obituary and pic and had to send my condolences.   • I just wanted to offer my condolences. I went to school with Gerald in Winnipeg. He was a really nice guy and I will always remember his curly hair. I ran into your son today Gerald and he looks just like you. I knew instantly he was your son. He is a great kid and you did a good job with him (Tristan). I am sorry I never got to see you since high school (Sisler) and Jig (Gilbert Park) our old stompin grounds. Sad you had to leave us so soon. Take care all of you and just know Gerald was a great guy and was nice to everyone.
