IVAN KAUFMANN 1920 - 2006 It is with a profound sense of grief that we announce the sudden passing on November 23, 2006 of our dear husband, father, grandfather (farfar og morfar) and great-grandfather, Ivan Kaufmann, resident of the Kiwanis Chateau, 430 Webb Place, Winnipeg. Ivan and Karen (Andersen) were married in Denmark on June 1, 1946 and were inseparable for those 60 plus years. Ivan and Karen immigrated to Canada in 1954 with their friends Egon and Gerda Pedersen and resided in Winkler 1954 to 1959, Souris 1959 to 1968, Thompson 1969 to 1973 and in Winnipeg for the last 33 years. Ivan was a trained dairy specialist (Denmark is famous for it's dairy products) and took those skills to Sweden during the Second World War, to Denmark after the war and then to Canada. Dad was devoted to his beloved wife, Karen, and they loved and cherished their family (children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren). The family of five grew to a family of 24 and has huge potential to keep on multiplying. Canada has been so good to the Kaufmann family and Dad was so proud to be a Canadian. He always said that we have the best country in the world. Dad was Plant Superintendent for Gardenland Creamery in Winkler, Manager of Souris Creamery, Manager for Silverwoods in Thompson and then Plant Superintendent for Silverwood Dairies in Winnipeg. He then volunteered for CESO (volunteer branch of CIDA) for 15 years in Central and South America, Sri Lanka and Latvia where he completed over 50 projects to aid the dairy industry to bring their standards and production up to international standards. For this work he received the Canada 125 Medal of which he was so proud as well as numerous accolades from all of those firms he helped in these various countries. Ivan served on the Vestry of Trinity Lutheran Church in Winkler and St. Lukes Anglican Church in Souris. He was always involved in the community and served on many boards and committees wherever he lived. He was past president of the Kiwanis Chateau where Ivan and Karen loved to live. The residents were like extensions of their family. Ivan is survived by his wife Karen; son Peter (wife Sandra, their sons, Christopher and Mark, Seoul, Korea); daughter Hanna (friend Gary), Hanna's sons, Jason (wife Mel, their children, Chase, William, Scott), Jeffrey, James (his son Andrew), Jonathan (wife Andrea) and daughter Jody (London, England); and his son John (wife Donna, their children, Jennifer (Nebojsa), Sarah and Daniel). Ivan was predeceased by his son-in-law Clark McCrae and his friend Egon Pedersen (Gerda Pedersen of Wolseley is surviving). The entire family was together at the 60th wedding anniversary this summer and the immediate family was together a week ago which is a blessing. Life is so short and we were not ready. We loved our husband and our dad so much. We never had a chance to say good-bye and tell him again how much we loved him. A special thanks to the doctors and nurses of the Health Sciences Centre for their wonderful care and compassion during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, a donation may be made to the Scandinavian Cultural Centre, 764 Erin Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3G 2W4. Funeral services will be conducted at Faith Lutheran Church, 1311 Dakota Street, Winnipeg, on Wednesday, November 29, 2006, at 3:00 p.m. Pastor Larry Ulrich will officiate. Wojcik's Funeral Home, 2157 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba, in care of arrangements.
