LEONARDO COPETTI (LEO) 1933-2006 It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Leonardo Copetti on November 25, 2006 at age 73. He was predeceased by his loving and devoted wife Mirella Maria Vincenzina (nee Capra) in 1996. He was also predeceased by his parents, two brothers and two sisters in Italy. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his caring and devoted second wife of nine years Eleanor J. (nee Urbanowich) who lovingly cared for him during the difficult fight with cancer. He is also survived by 3 children; Daisy Pastrick (Robert) and their daughters Brittany and Tiffany; Leonard Copetti (Kerry) and their daughters Caitlin, Camille and Alannah; Oriana Tait (Steve) and their children Tiana and Brenden. He is also survived by 3 brothers and a sister and their families in Italy and France. Leo was born in Gemona del Fruili, Italy. He completed his schooling in the construction trade and pursued training in Construction Project Management. At the age of 22 he immigrated to Canada and was directed to Winnipeg as a good place for construction employment. In order to practice what was already once learned and practiced back in the old country inevitably required learning a second language, ENGLISH, and that was one of the major struggles of beginning life in Canada. Nonetheless, after some time he obtained his journeyman's papers in the bricklayers trade. In 1958 on his first return visit to Italy, he met his future wife and in 1959 they married in Winnipeg. Adding to their joy they had 3 beautiful children. In 1962 with the invaluable support of his wife he started his own construction company Copetti Masonry Contractors Ltd. that carried on business for the next 33 years primarily in Winnipeg and throughout the province including mainly commercial, institutional and highrise masonry projects. He had a strong work ethic. He had a passion for his work gaining the respect and trust of the Professionals in the industry, the Owners, his Peers and his Workers. He enjoyed get togethers with families and friends. In the last 8 years in particular he and Eleanor enjoyed memorable trips down south during the winter months. During the busy years of raising a family and construction career, he nevertheless took time and was determined to learn a third language; the Language of Bible Truths that led him in 1978, at a Winnipeg International Convention of Jehovah's Witnesses, to be baptized by total immersion, in keeping with Jesus' example and the commandment he gave his followers (Matt. 28:19, 20). Since then he enjoyed all the Christian activities that included preaching and teaching and studying the Bible with those who had a quest for knowledge of God's purpose. He highly enjoyed volunteering his skills of bricklaying and stone laying in many, many Quick Build Kingdom Hall projects throughout the province and beyond. Private viewing and interment will take place at Thomson in the Park Funeral Home. A Memorial Service and reception will take place on Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 227 Lakewood Blvd., Winnipeg, Manitoba with Al Johannson officiating. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the St. Boniface Hospital, Palliative Care and to all the numerous friends for their loving support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of your choice.
