RHODA SABINA HUTCHINGS Rhoda died peacefully in her sleep on November 24, 2006 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. She is survived by her loving husband Stewart; her children, Sandy (Betty), Susan (Jim Shaw), Richard (Liz); daughter-in-law Mona, and her grandchildren, Beth, Jamie, Jennifer, Sarah, Kate, Roy, Sam and Jack; and by her sister-in-law Betty Moorhouse, and her cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Sabina and Edward (Ted) Moorhouse; her brother, Frank, and her second son John, who passed away in 2005. Rhoda was born in Winnipeg on January 22, 1921. She grew up in Norwood and had many fond memories of school and friends there. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Manitoba where she was Lady Stick. It was while at university that she met her soul-mate, Stew, and they married in 1942 before he was sent overseas to fight in the Second World War. Summers at Lake Malachi were a source of much pleasure for Rhoda, Stew and their family. Many fond memories and good friendships were formed there. Rhoda's interests and knowledge were varied and wide-ranging. She had a passion for reading and music. She loved a lively discussion over current affairs, politics or philosophies. Higher education and lifelong learning were valued greatly by Rhoda. She encouraged and promoted those endeavours in her children and grandchildren. Rhoda deeply loved her family and was always keenly interested in all of their activities. Her insights into life's problems and helpful suggestions will be sadly missed. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 30 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 830 North Dr., Fort Garry, with Rev. Geoffrey Woodcroft officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rhoda's memory to the Manitoba Lung Association or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. The family wishes to extend its deepest gratitude to Dr. J.R.A. Smart, Dr. Pat Harris, and Dr. Irving and the nurses and other caregivers on floor 4E of the Grace Hospital for their exceptional care, compassion and support.
