KATHLEEN EVELYN TURNER (nee NEWTON) Kathleen Turner, widow of Robert (Bob) Turner, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2006 at the Tuxedo Villa Nursing Home in Winnipeg. Kathleen, fondly called Kay or Kaylo by family members and friends, spent most of her life in Manitoba. The daughter of Charles and Mary Newton, Kay was born in Winnipeg, October 18, 1910. She attended Lord Roberts School and Kelvin High School. Kay and Bob were married March 18, 1939. For many years they resided at 408 Conway Street in the Silver Heights area of Winnipeg. Their family grew to include four children: Karen, Kim, Coulter and Kent. Before having children, Kay worked at Sovereign Life and after raising her children she spent an additional 18 years as a R.C.A.F. secretary. In 1975, Kay retired and she and Bob began planning and designing their retirement home. In 1977, they saw their dreams unfold, as they moved into a lovely home in the East Selkirk area of St. Clements. After twenty enjoyable years in the countryside they relocated to Winnipeg's Island Lakes neighborhood. They enjoyed a long and happy marriage. They celebrated over 61 years of wedded bliss. After her beloved husband's passing in November 2000, Kay moved to Lindenwood Manors. Kay was also predeceased by her youngest son, Kent (July/93), her brother Lynne Newton and his wife Muriel and her granddaughter Janice Dunn. These losses brought great suffering to an otherwise happy and rich life. Left to mourn her departure and celebrate her life are her daughter, Karen (David Dunn); sons Kim (Barbara) and Coulter (Elaine) and daughter-in-law Janice Campbell (Keith). She will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Matthew (Cindy-Lee), Paul, Steven (Thuy), James (Lois), Kevin, Leigh, Colleen (Paul), Ryan (Jenniffer), Brett (Sara) and Dustin and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Kay and Bob shared a wonderful life. They cherished time with each other and time with their extended family. They led their family by quiet example and consistently supported their children as they too raised loving families and realized their dreams. Throughout her life Kay found time to enjoy such activities as baking, gardening, and crochetting afghans. Her afghans display her wonderful artistic flair. She devoted much of her free time to literature. An avid reader, Kay was articulate, knowledgeable and interested in many different topics. She took pleasure in discussing politics and other matters with family and friends. A great conversationalist, she delighted in the tableside exchanges she had with her children, grandchildren, friends and extended family members. Kay s family wishes to extend a special thanks to the wonderful staff at Tuxedo Villa for all the loving care shown her during her stay there. Greatly missed, always loved. Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 1, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home, Hwy #1 E at Navin Rd., with viewing half hour prior to service. Rev. Janet Walker presiding. Interment to follow in Green Acres Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery Hwy. #1 E. at Navin, (204) 222-3241
