Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN HARPER With breaking hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Helen Harper on Sunday, November 26, 2006 at the Health Sciences Centre. Helen will be sadly missed, lovingly remembered and never forgotten by her husband of 54 years Melvin Harper; loving son David Harper (Carrie); grandchildren Chloe and Mitchell; brothers Ted Petrie (Judy), David Petrie (Barbara Hirt), Gerald Petrie, Gordon Petrie (Donna); sister Carol Cater (Don); niece Penny and nephews Cameron, Brad and Chris. She was predeceased by her parents George and Ida Petrie. Helen was born in Winnipeg on May 4, 1928 and grew up in the North End. She raised her family in East Kildonan. Helen was part of a very special group of near and dear friends called the GGOOMS . This group developed in her school days and carries on to this day. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile where she made many friends. Helen's favorite place was the family cottage on Lake of the Woods in Rush Bay, Ontario. The cottage was a labour of love built with her loving husband, son, parents, relatives and many friends. She found peace there and provided love to those who visited. With over 46 years of memories: swimming, gardening, walking and her wildlife encounter with bears, they will be remembered by all. Helen also enjoyed her two dogs Pokey and Missy . Helen poured her strength into her loved one's and always put others first before herself. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 30 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue with a reception to follow. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the MICU at Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion shown to Helen.
