Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT H. DEVOS September 21, 1926 - November 24, 2006 In loving memory of Robert (Bob) DeVos who passed away peacefully on November 24, 2006 at the Victoria General Hospital. Robert will be remembered by his wife Madeliene; daughter Roberta (Bruce) Elsholz; sons Ron (Debbie) and Rodney (Gina); daughter-in-law Louise Wladyka; and grandchildren Nicholas, Holly, Ainslee, Jenna, and Colton. He also leaves behind his brothers Joseph and George; sister Irene; and numerous nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by his son Randall in 1983 and sister Mary in 2006. Robert was born in 1926, and grew up on the family's dairy farm in St. Norbert, MB. He worked for Canada Cement. Eventually he and his wife partnered together to start DeVos Farms in La Salle, MB. Bob and Madeliene ran a dairy and grain farm for many years. In due course DeVos Farms was asked to develop some of their land for housing in the growing town of La Salle. Robert enjoyed being a land developer for many years into his retirement. Along the way Bob was a town councillor and contracted with Manitoba Highways. In this last year he enjoyed reflecting upon adventures on his farm and driving his big truck while being part of the highway team. Bob valued all the relationships he formed and could handle most challenges thrown at him in these various roles. He enjoyed problem solving and fixing things himself and there were always projects on the go in his workshop. Bob was a member of the Winnipeg Wandering Wheels trailer club for many years. In his beloved motor home he lead several caravans and enjoyed time spent socializing around the campfire. Bob and Madeliene had the good fortune to travel to many places together including Australia, Hawaii, cruises including to Alaska and the Panama Canal, and had several winters in the USA. He enjoyed meeting new people, seeing new places, and particularly loved Hawaii. Special thank you to all who have cared for Robert in the past year including staff from WRHA Home Care, Victoria General Hospital, St. Adolphe Personal Care Home, and Dr. Lowden. Thank you all for your care and patience. Following Robert's wishes, a private family service and interment will take place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, or a charity of your choice in Robert's memory would be appreciated.
